Santa Barbara’s Chiropractor
Gonstead chiropractic — the most specific, most effective approach in the field.
At Santa Barbara Family Chiropractic, we specialize in the Gonstead technique — one of the most thorough and specific approaches in chiropractic. Whether you're dealing with back pain, recovering from an injury, or simply committed to staying healthy and active into your later years, we're here to help.
Meet the Doctors
Dr. Brad Johnson has been caring for Santa Barbara families since the early 1990s. A UCSB alum, lifelong surfer, and athlete, Brad brings a deep personal understanding of what it means to keep your body performing at its best — at every age. He's now joined by Dr. Lukas Johansen, a Gonstead-trained graduate who grew up right here in the practice.

FAQs
Do I need a referral to see a chiropractor?
No referral needed. You can call or email us directly to schedule an appointment. If you're unsure whether chiropractic is right for your situation, give us a call — we're happy to talk it through before you commit to a visit.
Is chiropractic care safe?
Yes. Chiropractic is one of the safest forms of healthcare available for musculoskeletal conditions. The Gonstead technique is particularly precise — adjustments are made only where they're genuinely needed, based on thorough analysis, which minimizes unnecessary manipulation.
How quickly will I feel results?
It varies. Some patients feel significant relief after their first adjustment. Others — particularly those with long-standing problems — notice gradual improvement over several visits. We'll give you an honest assessment of what to expect based on your specific situation at your first appointment.
Do you take insurance?
Dr. Johnson operates as a private pay practice — we don't bill insurance directly. Many patients find that the out-of-pocket cost of chiropractic care is very reasonable, particularly when weighed against the long-term costs of medication, specialist visits, or surgery. We're happy to provide a receipt you can submit to your insurance provider for potential reimbursement, depending on your plan.
